Supercal 98 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago

Trying to eliminate costly gas prices and rental fees...I applied Supercal 98 this past spring to one plot. I have a noted change in my PH. It went from 5.9 to 6.1. Applying Supercal 98 appears to done it's job and saved me $. Can anyone else confirm it's effectiveness? It was in a Clover/Plantian mix and Buckwheat ringed Plot. If your wondering why the Buckwheat ring...weeds were taking over the edges.

Supercal 98 is basically just pelletized lime. You should have seen more of a bounce than 2 tenths of a point. I get 9 tenths of a point with our pH Fertilizer which basically uses the same technology. I've seen almost an entire point increase in less than a month with pH Fertilizer. You can use it, but it should not be a substitute for regular powdered quarry lime. You have to apply it (Supercal) every year. Depending upon your soil type and original starting pH you should only need to apply regular lime once every 3 to 8 years. It’s worthless for perennials, as just with regular lime you need to place the calcium carbonate particle where it needs to be, it won’t travel through the soil like Nitrogen and Potassium will. Unless you want to work your perennials up each year it's worthless for them. This pelletized lime is great if you need a fast boost for an annual, but if I’m planting perennials I want the pH to stay as close to neutral for as long as possible. So seeing as you have to apply this every year from my experience it is cheaper to have the lime truck come out or rent a filled spreader. I think the product is great, I just do not think it is a money saver. The product, as I said, uses the same technology as we use in our pH Fertilizer, where you have small 100 mesh limestone mixed with a binder. In our case, however, we take it a step further and homogenize N, P and K in the same particle. It would depend upon how far away from the plant you are as to how economic it would be becasue of big freight bills.

FPD, sorry 6.4 was the last test...typo. What is the rate of app. for Phfertilzer...hard to find info on the net. The bad thing about the Bioloigc fert. is I'd have to buy from Green Bay, WI or Travese City ,MI and pay for shipping as the only source is Gander Mountain MQT...which has cut it from their assortment. Thanks for the info on Calcium to the source...good stuff.
