Sudden Impact, April 24, 2009
When I walked into the beautiful log home of Carol Flees, part owner of Wilderness Whitetails, my jaw hit my chest! I could not believe what was before my eyes. I actually started to laugh like a kid because of the amazing sight of the enormous whitetail mounts that Carol had hanging in her home. These were antlers from some of the bucks that she, and her son's Shorty and Greg, had grown.
To the average whitetail hunter who isn't into what happens in the deer breeder industry these animals will make your eyes bug-out. They are "freaky big!" It's beyond explanation; you've just got to see it. And thanks to the kindness of Wilderness Whitetails you will be able to log onto this website and watch one of their bucks, named Sudden Impact, grow what could be the biggest set of antlers EVER! Last year as a two year old this unbelievable buck grew a set of antlers that scored 406 5/8! That is the biggest two year old buck (antler size) ever. It's simply amazing!
Carol, Shorty and Greg Flees are brilliant when it comes to growing huge, healthy whitetails. Concerning bucks this grand, genetics and nutrition have to be the best there is - period. The members of the Flees family are geniuses when it comes to stacking genetics and providing the ultimate in nutrition to produce the largest whitetail bucks ever. What makes this special from BioLogic's perspective is they could have anything they want planted in their feed plots for these remarkable bucks, but they have been planting BioLogic for the past ten years. We are very proud of the fact that they trust BioLogic.
We obviously understand that this is not in the wild. But in the wild it would be impossible to collect the data available here, or to bring this momentous spectacle to you for you to witness. We aren't saying that you are going to be able to grow a buck like this in the wild - I guess in a “perfect storm” the possibility is there, but highly unlikely. These bucks receive incredible care.
We are going to update the photos weekly. During July and August we may have to update more often than that because this buck, as a two year old, was putting on 6 inches of antler per day during the last stages of antler genesis! Shorty Flees said, "Sudden Impact started out significantly slower than the majority of our other bucks last year but caught up and then passed them probably sometime in late June. Hopefully he starts a little faster this year. If he does, it will be real interesting to see how big he will get.”
If you are a whitetail antler enthusiast, as I am, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. Many years ago no one ever thought that a whitetail could reach 300 inches. Then as recent as ten years ago nobody thought there would ever be a buck that would surpass 400 inches. Can you believe that this buck blew through 400 inches at two years old?
